Behaviors

Agitation

Agitation

Agitation is one of the hidden values present in all slimes, determining which standard facial expression they display based on their agitation and hunger levels, and serving as the primary factor controlling how frequently their negative behaviors occur. Agitation normally begins to accumulate when a slime reaches 99% hunger and takes roughly 12 in-game hours to increase from 0% to 100% once that threshold is reached, though certain factors can modify the rate at which it grows.

Agitation's growth rate is a dynamic value that constantly changes based on its current level and can be either positive or negative. A number of modifiers exist that can influence the rate of agitation in various ways, affecting how quickly it increases or decreases over time.

  • feeding:Feeding a slime is the only way to completely lower its agitation and restore it to a happy state, but a slime can only eat when it is hungry. Giving a slime its favorite food reduces agitation by 30%, while feeding it any other food, with the exception of Spicy Tofu, reduces agitation by 15%, and these effects are doubled for Largos. When a slime's hunger is below 99%, its agitation will also passively decrease at roughly 30% per in-game hour, assuming nothing else is increasing its growth rate. When hunger exceeds 99%, however, agitation begins to grow at a rate of 8.
  • water:Water and Ancient Water can temporarily negate negative behaviors and reduce a slime's agitation by 10% for 20 seconds. This decrease does not stack and is only temporary, though it can be reapplied once the 20 seconds have elapsed.
  • music box:The Music Box is an upgrade for the Corral that halves the rate at which slimes’ agitation grows. If agitation is already passively decreasing, the Music Box instead doubles the rate of this decrease.
  • slime toys:Slime Toys are purchasable items unlocked through the 7Zee Rewards Club that reduce the rate of agitation growth by 12.5%, or by 25% if any toy within range is favored by the slimes. Additional Slime Toys do not stack their effects with each other but can stack with a Music Box. If agitation is passively decreasing, Slime Toys instead increase the rate of recovery by 25% or 50%, respectively.
  • tangle slime pollen:Tangle Slimes produce a pollen aura that increases agitation growth by 8.33% per hour. The effects of multiple pollen auras do not stack, and other Tangle Slimes are immune to this effect.
  • fire slime contact:Fire Slimes that are on fire can temporarily increase the agitation of slimes they touch by 50%. Agitation caused by contact with a Fire Slime can take up to three in-game hours to fully dissipate. Unlike other agitation modifiers, Music Boxes and Slime Toys have no effect on this agitation. Other Fire Slimes are immune to this effect.
  • deferalization:When a Feral Slime is fed or affected by a Taming Bell, its agitation is reduced by 50%.

Certain slimes exhibit negative behaviors that occur more frequently or become noticeable once they reach a specific agitation level. Many of these behaviors can be temporarily suppressed for 20 seconds by splashing the slime with Water.

  • rock slime:Rock Slimes roll every 15 seconds when at 0% agitation, and their rolling frequency increases as agitation rises, reaching a maximum frequency of once every 3 seconds at 100% agitation.
  • boom slime:Boom Slimes explode every 45 seconds at 0% agitation, and their explosion frequency increases as agitation rises, reaching a maximum frequency of once every 10 seconds at 100% agitation.
  • crystal slime:Crystal Slimes produce crystals every 15 seconds at 0% agitation, and the frequency of crystal production increases as agitation rises, reaching a maximum of once every 3 seconds at 100% agitation.
  • hunter slime largo:Hunter Slime Largos can go feral at 99.99% agitation.
  • dervish slime:Dervish Slimes will produce large tornados at 95% agitation.
  • tangle slime:Tangle Slimes produce pollen that causes nearby slimes to sneeze, increasing their agitation. This behavior begins once the Tangle Slime reaches 75% agitation.
Feral Slimes

Feral Slimes

Feral Slimes are aggressive variants of Largo Slimes that act with hostility toward Beatrix, making them more dangerous to encounter than their non-feral counterparts.

Tips

Feral Slimes can be recognized by their flashing red sparks, shadowed faces, grumpy expressions, and glowing red eyes, with all naturally occurring feral Largos consuming meat, and in Adventure Mode they also unleash a dangerous area-of-effect buttstomp attack, signaled by a leap into the air and a distinct launching sound. They can be pacified using a Taming Bell, repelled with the Pulse Wave upgrade, or in desperate situations tricked into eating an incompatible plort to trigger a Tarr outbreak, which can then be dispatched with water to simplify dealing with them. Early in the game, most feral slimes encountered are Phosphor/Pink Largos, which can be avoided by passing through their areas during daylight.

Stacking

Stacking

Stacking is an adorable behavior exclusive to pure slimes, where two or more slimes may climb on top of each other when in close proximity. They can form or break stacks at any time and will actively try to break stacks when affected by Fear, usually in the presence of Tarr. Some slimes may even spawn already stacked in specific locations. Largo Slimes cannot stack, so pure slimes lose this ability when converted into Largos.

Hunger

Hunger

Hunger is one of the hidden values present in all slimes and determines which standard facial expression they display, including how it interacts with their agitation values. Feeding a slime lowers its agitation, making keeping slimes fed the most reliable way to prevent negative behaviors. Slimes do not die from going unfed for extended periods, and unlike agitation, there are no external modifiers that affect the rate of hunger. Hunger is completely disabled within The Slimeulation, meaning slimes in this area will not eat food. Gordo Slimes are a special case, consuming all foods in their diet until they burst.

Pounce

Pounce

A Pounce is a non-hostile action that certain slimes can perform, where the slime pauses to wiggle before jumping either in the player’s direction or toward nearby food. When a slime makes contact with the player during a pounce, it is referred to as a boop. Occasionally, slimes may pounce while facing the opposite direction, and if the slime is a Feral, this behavior can keep the player on their toes.

Variations

  • tabby slime:The Tabby Slime performs the most basic form of the pounce. Being a common slime and the first one that players typically encounter performing this action, it is the most well-known for it.
  • hunter slime:The Hunter Slime’s pounce variant is very similar to the Tabby Slime’s, with the primary difference being that it cloaks itself while performing the action.
  • saber slime:The Saber Slime is capable of bouncing off walls to change direction in midair, allowing it to adjust its pounce toward its intended target.

Tips

  • tip 1:Harmful Largo variants of Tabby, Hunter, and Saber Slimes are still able to perform a pounce, transforming what is normally a cute behavior into a potentially dangerous one.
  • tip 2:Allowing a Tabby Slime or Saber Largo to pounce on Beatrix unlocks the Boop! Achievement. Pounces from Hunter Slimes or Largos, as well as pounces directed at food, do not count toward this achievement.
Fear

Fear

Fear is an emotion that slimes can experience, causing them to flee from the source of their fear. Slimes affected by fear are able to jump higher than normal, and any slimes that are stacked will break their stacks while experiencing fear. Fear naturally wears off over time as long as nothing prolongs it and is not influenced by hunger or agitation. Tarr are the most common source of fear for slimes, appearing frequently in the wild in areas where slimes often cross-contaminate. Corralled slimes that jump while experiencing fear during a Tarr outbreak can break their corral’s Air Net if one is installed.

Shock

Shock

Shock, also known as Awe, is an expression that all slimes can experience except for Feral Slimes, Tarr, and Gordo Slimes. It has no effect on gameplay and exists purely for comedic effect. Slimes can experience shock in some ways, such as being vacuumed or watching another slime transform into a Largo. After one of these events occurs, the slime’s expression will change for up to five seconds before returning to its previous state, and slimes will remain stationary while shocked. Slimes cannot become shocked if they are hungry, agitated, or elated.
